If you're going to be in Michigan backpacking, try these virtually unknown places and get away from the crowds.
Fall is upon us. You can feel the briskness in the air. You can see different colored leaves in the trees. As you walk down the sidewalk you can hear the crunch of the fallen leaves under your feet. It's deer hunting season. Deer are scampering so they don't get shot by hunters. You can go visit an apple orchard to buy donuts, apple cider and apples.
The City of Buchanan was settled in 1833 at the spot where McCoy Creek meets the St. Joseph River and was once a major transportation route for Native American tribes in the area, especially the Potawatomi. An historical marker to that effect has been placed on Moccasin Trail north of Buchanan near Batchelor's Island.
Detroit is the largest city in Michigan. As of 2005, the population was 886,675, making it 11th largest city in the United States of America. Even so, the population has fallen by more than half since its peak in the early 1950s - at one time the city was the 4th largest in the country.
Lake Michigan offers some of the best steelhead, Coho salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, and smallmouth bass fishing in the entire Midwest. Many of the tributary rivers and streams that flow into Lake Michigan provide excellent fishing as well. Of all the great lakes,Lake Michigan, and its tributary rivers may provide the best fishing in the entire Midwest. Lake Michigan is the third largest of the great lakes and the sixth largest lake in the world.
If an all around good time is what you are looking for on the water, consider a Michigan fishing charters. No matter whether you are looking for ice fishing, down rigging for salmon or the other great fish of the area, it is in Michigan. When considering a fishing vacation, many do not consider the great state of Michigan. For those that have been to Michigan or live in the area they already know something that many others do not.
