Flying from Luton airport - add a little luxury to your holiday   by Paula Garrett

The popularity of low-cost airlines has helped Luton airport become the UK's 5th busiest airport, handling more than 9 million passengers a year. This huge increase in passenger numbers is great news for the airport and airlines, but it can lead to overcrowding and queues for everything: coffee, newspapers etc. However, there is a solution, one that doesn't require lots of money, will take add a little luxury to your holiday and allow you to relax before flying...an airport lounge.

Once regarded as an expensive extra for business travellers, airport lounges are no longer beyond the reach of everyday travellers and with prices starting from as low as just £12 they are well within the grasp of even the budget traveller. These little havens let you escape from the overcrowded terminal with their screaming kids, the assault course of baggage and stretched out bodies that are trying to grab a quick shut eye before taking off.

Airport lounges and the facilities they offer vary from airport to airport, some permit children, others only allow children over the age of 12 and opening times vary too, so it's well worth checking with your UK airport (http://www.airportsinformation.co.uk) to see if all your requirements are catered for.

At Luton there is the Aviance Lounge located airside on the second floor.

Open from 5.45am to 21.30 daily (22.30 from May to October), this air conditioned lounge has disabled access and offers the following facilities: soft and alcoholic refreshments, conference facilities, fax machine, flight information monitor, internet, newspapers and magazines, television and Wi-fi access.

Stays are limited to a maximum of three hours and are available to ticketed passengers only - no infants or children under 12 are permitted.

With the great facilities on offer, Luton's airport lounge offers a great way to escape the crowds, have a drink, catch up with last minute emails or just simply relax prior to your flight.

To prevent overcrowding, tickets to the airport lounge are limited so it is advisable to book your airport lounge (http://www.lutonairportinformation.co.uk/luton-airport-FAC-facilities-lounges.php) early. Tickets must be purchased at least 24 hours in advance and are available on the internet.
