Thinking about a trip to South America? RealTravelers Leigh & Jo recently experienced many wonderful adventures in Bolivia, from a 4WD adventure across the salt flats of Uyuni, to exploring the silver mines of Potosi, to taking Spanish lessons in Sucre, to enjoying a wild festival in La Paz followed by a death-defying mountain biking trek on the World’s Most Dangerous Road. Their most recent adventure was a hiking trip around beautiful Lake Titicaca. While the hike was often challenging because of Bolivia’s high altitude and harsh terrain, the resplendent views of the lake and the ancient ruins on Isla del Sol made the challenge worth it. Here’s a great passage from their travel blog, Copacabana (Lake Titicaca) - Hiking and Relaxing: “…we met up with the gang and headed off for a 16km round trip walk Yampupata, which is on a dirt road taking us to the closest point between the mainland and Isla del Sol. It was very testing as there were some steep hills on the way there, but well worth it as it was so beautiful walking all round the massive Lake. After passing through some villages and a shrine to the Copacabana virgin, we decided to hike up a hill and have lunch on the top. We passed by numerous pigs and lambs and saying a friendly Hola to all the locals and got to the top. Helen and Ants had organized a packed lunch for us all and carried it all the way (very kind of them), so we spread out the towels and sarongs and enjoyed a fabulous picnic overlooking the beautiful blue Lake Titicaca.” (more…) Read about the rest of Leigh & Jo’s adventures in Bolivia for inspiring ideas for your own itinerary.
