Located in lovely County Clare, Ennis is a delightful little town that draws a surprising number of visitors who seek not a bustling nightlife, but genuine old world Irish charm. Situated at the fork in the River Fergus, Ennis gets its name from the Irish word for Ireland, Inis. Ennis has many fetching little shops and charming, narrow streets, both of which have earned it the affectionate little of the most endearing town in Ireland. It was also named as one of the world’s top sixty great places to visit, and many people have taken the title to heart, travelling to Ennis to see everything that this lovely little town has to offer. Perhaps one of the greatest attractions Ennis has to offer families is the fact that it is both safe and welcoming, as well as great fun. With a warm, welcoming population, Ennis boasts surprisingly excellent shopping for a town of its size. There are many little shops located off the beaten path, normally only frequented by the locals, where you can find some authentic Irish goods and souvenirs. The food is also delightful, and a great number of the restaurants in Ennis trace their origins back to the 1950s when many chefs were “imported” from all over the globe in order to cater to the crews of the various airlines that touched down at Shannon, offering a delightful bonus for many gourmets passing through. Ennis also offers visitors a comfortable array of hotels. You may want to stop in at the Auburn hotel, a modest hundred-room accommodation perfect for relaxing after a day of touring, or the comfortable little Queens Hotel. For authentic, old-world charm to match the charm of Ennis, however, you’ll want to check out —that is, check in to!— the Temple Gate Hotel. A delightful townhouse hotel, the Temple Gate Hotel is positioned on the site of an old, nineteenth century convent. No matter where you stay, your time in Ennis is sure to be a delight.
