Enjoy a view of some of South Africa's beautiful landscapes whilst chugging past in the comfort of a luxury coach filled with inklings of the 1920's. The luxurious Blue Train will take you back in time when people were obsessed with high teas, had butlers and it was all about haute couture (high fashion).

If you are a hopeless romantic and an adventurous traveler looking for ways to make your holiday as memorable and exciting as possible, a train safari will do the trick.

It's been called a five star hotel on wheels; has been nominated as the most luxurious train in the world and has also won numerous awards. The Blue Train came into existence in 1928 at the same time as companies like the Union Express and Union Limited.

The train is a luxury liner; it has Birch wood paneled deluxe cabins that are fully carpeted with their own en-suite (with a full sized bath). There is a butler who attends to the needs of each and every passenger; there are two lounge cars for smokers and non-smokers. For those after dinner drinks there is the club car where you can enjoy your cognacs, coffees or cigars in peace. The train also has a conference car where you can have small conferences, meetings or weddings.

Dining on the Blue Train is an experience in itself. You are treated to a variety of dishes including succulent and tender Karoo Lamb, or Crocodile followed by decadent desserts and to finish off the evening a glass of the finest South African wine. Only the freshest and the best ingredients are used when preparing the various dishes for the passengers. The menu is of the highest quality and will entice any palate.

The décor in the dining car has created an ambience of warmth and elegance. There are large windows that allow panoramic views; individual lamps on each table create an even warmer and romantic mood. The car is filled with South African artworks; it makes it a truly South African experience.

The train currently runs mainly between Pretoria and Cape Town and goes through the scenic Garden Route three times a year. The train also covers special routes that are between Pretoria-Durban and various game lodges on occasion.

As you board the train you will be greeted with drinks and a butler will escort you to your cabin. As you travel you will be treated to some of South Africa's most scenic landscapes, mountains and winelands. If you are really lucky you may even spot some of the big five or giraffes and zebras.

This experience is suitable for people that have an appreciation of the finer things in life and want to explore South Africa in the lap of luxury.
