Fort Caspar is located at 4001 Fort Caspar Road, Casper, Wyoming 82604.

This is a reconstructed 1865 military post located at a major river crossing on the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, Pony Express, and transcontinental telegraph trail corridor. Native Americans, mountain men, traders, emigrants, and the U.S. Army all visited or lived in the Casper area during the mid 1800s.

The Wyoming's regional history museum features exhibits on prehistoric peoples, Plains Indians, ranching, the energy industry, and the City of Casper, and western emigrant trails and frontier army.

Guided tours are available of the fort grounds with an interpreter. The guided tours are available for groups of 10 or more and are dependent on the availability of the tour guides. You will need to call two weeks in advance to request a tour, telephone: 307-235-8462.

Exhibits

• Museum Gallery: The Museum Gallery preserves and exhibits historical objects related to Fort Caspar, the City of Casper, Natrona County, and central Wyoming.
• Fort Grounds: Buildings rebuilt close to the original locations using a floor plan drawn by Lieutenant Caspar Collins in the 1860s. In the 1980s, a replica of the Mormon ferry and a reconstructed section of the Guinard Bridge were added.
• The Pacific Telegraph Company Office: The U.S. government sent troops west to guard the transcontinental telegraph line linking the East and West Coasts in 1862.

• Infantry Barracks
• Mess Hall: Served as kitchen and dining room for all soldiers stationed at this post.
• Cavalry Barracks
• Commissary
• Laundry Building
• Lieutenants' Quarters
• Captain's Quarters
• Major's Quarters
• Blacksmith Shop
• Sutler's Store
• Cemetery
• Carriage Shed: Exhibits the Museum's collection of wagons and other transportation vehicles from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
• Centennial Park: Was added to the Museum grounds in 1990 to commemorate the Wyoming State Centennial. It includes a "History Walk," which is a series of interpretive signs detailing the history of central Wyoming, and a Signature Cabin that displays photographs and student signatures from all Natrona County schools in 1990. Picnic shelters, grills, and playground equipment are also in the park.

The Centennial Park and other areas of the site are available for rental for weddings, family reunions, and other gatherings. For more information call 307-235-8462.
