From the Eiffel Tower in Paris, to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, to Blarney Castle in Ireland, Europe is rife with awe-inspiring examples of spectacular architecture. A historic hotbed, it’s hard to go to any city in Europe without stumbling upon a brilliant and breathtaking edifice. Recently, RealTravelers Paulo & Claudia traveled to Berlin and explored some of the impressive architecture Germany’s lively capital city has to offer. In their blog entitled My Small Tour of Berlin, Paulo & Claudia write about Television Tower, Red Town Hall, Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Bebelplatz, and more great structures. Here’s an excerpt from their blog describing Television Tower: “The Television Tower on the west side of Alexanderplatz was originally 365 meters high and is the tallest structure in Berlin, conspicuously marking the center of the capital. The sphere on the tower covers seven storeys, two of which are open to the public: the viewing floor at a height of 203 metres and above it the Telecafé in which the outer ring with the tables revolved around its own axis once per hour. A few years ago, the rotation time was reduced to half an hour to shorten the amount of time spent there by guests. The exterior surface of the sphere consists of 140 stainless steel segments, and when the sun shines a large cross appears as a reflection.” (more…) If you’re planning a trip to Europe this summer and want to learn more about its architectural history, you’ll enjoy Tanmoy’s blog about a visit to Italy, and &Benita’s journal describing her trip to Paris and her visit to stunning Versailles. My favorite European architecture in the world is found in Santorini, Greece– see some gorgeous shots captured by RealTravelers at Santorini Travel Photos.
