Looking for ways to escape the city and the hectic pace of everyday life? RealTraveler Kristen in the UK found a great outlet for stress - joining a hiking club. She’s studying abroad in Bradford, England, and enjoyed the opportunity to get away from the rigors of study and the challenges of city life. Her hiking club took to the rolling hills and pastures of Mytholmroyd, where they saw lovely cottages, lazy cows, and little towns along the way. A highlight of the hike was taking in glorious views of a valley from Stoodley Pike Monument. Here’s a passage from Kristen in the UK’s blog, First Hike with Hiking Club: “I enjoyed being away from the noise and business of Bradford. From the top of the hill we were able to see across the valleys and see little towns nestled down below us. It was a beautiful day for a hike, the morning started off crisp and not a cloud in sight. That’s a rare thing I’ve come to learn… The midpoint of the hike and where we stopped for lunch was the Stoodley Pike Monument. When we finally arrived at the monument we were granted an amazing view of a valley. The side of the hill just dropped off and sloped down to a little town below. You could climb up inside the monument and walk around the outside of it. It was a circular stairway, but interesting because there weren’t any lights. You go around the first turn and are all of a sudden surrounded by darkness. This seemed to be a popular point to hike to because we saw quite a few other hikers up there…” (more…) To read more about Kristen’s adventures in the UK, check out her travel itinerary, My Study Abroad in England, and visit the links below for ideas on where to travel in England.
