New York mayor, Michael Bloomberg, decided to transform city into "wedding capital" for attraction of those tourists who would like to marry. In the first instance, Bloomberg is going to make an "original wedding present" - multimillion reconstruction of wedding registry office. The head of reconstruction will be designer-decorator Jam Drake, whose previous work was the interior of the mayor residence. Wedding registry office now is settled on the second floor of a municipal building, walls of the premise are laid out by a marble of an inexpressive colour and the door in the weddings hall is painted in red. Couples sit on plastic chairs established along walls of lobby and wait for a call. On some parts of the walls there are graffiti, and, worst of all, there is no toilet nearby. Drake will work on the project of reconstruction which costs 13 million dollars. Reconstruction should be completed by spring 2008. The area of the new premise will be on 6000 ft. more then former. There will be beautifully decorated waiting rooms, marble floors, toilets and special premises for the grooms and brides where they can tide themselves before the ceremony. At the entrance will be the security system, which will not disturb visitors. Now brides in the white wedding dresses are compelled to pass through magnetometers. "I feel like, I am at the road worthiness inspection but not at the wedding" - says one of the groom friends. "Everything is so official - it is not quite like you've imagined your wedding day" - the bride agrees. New York now takes the second place in the country on number of married couples.
