A quiet revolution has been going on in the capital of the people’s republic of South Yorkshire recently, largely unnoticed by anyone other than the local media. Sheffield train station has been transformed.

Inside, the station as new shops, including a Marks and Spencers, and the platforms are laced with a modern steely feel, new toilets and a fully accessible walk way that’s covers the 9 platforms. No doubt the silvery feel is has much to do with reflecting the city past steel making glory, as it is the number one modern option of the time.

The station is closely linked to the city’s fully electronic tram system that can take you anywhere in the city. And a walk way exists to the Cities bus station. This is an almost fully integrated cities when it comes to transport!. But the real surprise happens outside the front.

Gone is the monstrous tower block, and in its place is an open area with a water feature and the floor littered with up lifter lights. To top it all off during the evening every so often a misty fog appears from the water feature to add even more atmosphere to this wonderful city.

Standing outside the front of the train station and looking up past the Howard pub a wonderful entrance into the cities theatre district can be seen. Walking up that street will take you by the famous crucible theatre, home to the world Snooker Championship. Sheffield is going under a quite revolution and the number of hotels in Sheffield is increasing. This is city on the brink of big things and it is well worth a visit.
