This winter, if you are looking to party with thousands of strangers under the full moon, escape to an almost secluded island, or get pedicures on the beach, Thailand may be the place for you! With fantastic snorkeling, cuisine, shops and resorts, Thailand provides something for everyone. Here are a few ideas inspired from RealTravelers who’ve traveled to many of the beaches and islands of Thailand, to give you inspiration to start planning your trip:

Phi Phi Islands

While still rebuilding after the Tsunami of 2004, the Phi Phi Islands (also known as Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Phi Phi Don) are a great place to go to if you are looking for beautiful beaches, spectacular snorkeling, boat trips and nightlife. There is a range of accommodations to fit any budge, from cheap hostels, to huts, to resorts away from the crowds.

RealTraveler Ivy recently island hopped to Phi Phi Islands. Her adventures included taking a boat tour to Monkey Beach, Bamboo Island and Maya Beach (where “The Beach” was filmed), and enjoying the nightlife. Here’s an excerpt from her trip:

“After The Beach was filmed here, Ko Phi Phi became the island paradise that everyone had always dreamed about. Strikingly beautiful lagoons, scenic hills, long white sand beaches, emerald and turquoise waters, dense tropical forests. Unfortunately, once a place has been advertised in a movie and numerous travel brochures, you kind of know even before getting there that some of the beauty you were expecting to see would be gone - destroyed by the droves of tourists and travellers all coming to seek their own paradise and the property developers cramming in the resorts to cash in on the area’s popularity. The 2004 tsunami also caused alot of damage apparently with virtually every standing structure tragically destroyed in the bay areas.” (more…)
