Night skiing, family friendly resorts and affordable prices are just a few reasons to check out Winter Resorts in the eastern United States. With many great ski areas in Pennsylvania, New York, and Maine, you’ll have plenty of places to choose from once the snow starts falling. Here are a few popular places to consider:

Pennsylvania

The Poconos region of Pennsylvania is popular for weekend getaways, especially after a great snowfall. Pack up the whole family for a few days of enjoying the slopes, a cozy fireplace and quality time. Check out Angie-Travel Addict and her family’s trip last winter to Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie for some inspiration to hit the slopes. After a few days on the beginner’s slope, she compiled a few tips:

“A few things I learned about Snowboarding:

1. If its your first time : Take a Lesson! Seriously there is nothing wrong with this. Its not like its natural for a human to be shackled to a board and sent down a snowy icy hill! This is a skill that has to be learned and the best way is from a trained someone who knows how. Most places have a “learn to ride” package including rentals and lift tickets…..inquire at your mountain.

2. Wear Protection : ALWAYS! It doesn’t matter your level. A helmet is a MUST! Its not a bad idea to wear wrist guards and knee pads if you are just starting….you’re gonna fall… like 100s of times A DAY.

3. Ride at Your Level : Don’t attempt slopes, or tricks that you’re not ready for. At best you’ll make an ass of yourself, at worst you’ll seriously injure yourself or someone else.

4. Demo Days : These are good for renting new equipment to test it out or to potentially buy it if you like. See when your mountain or pro shop does this.” (more…)

Maine

With over 450 ski areas, Maine has plenty of terrain for beginners and those looking for a challenge. Snow mobiling, ice fishing, horse drawn sleigh rides and visiting museums are popular winter activities as well, providing something for everyone. Head to Sugarloaf Mountain which boasts the only “lift-serviced above-the-treeline skiing in the East,” stop by beautiful Bethel near the second most popular ski area, Sunday River - there’s plenty to discover in Maine anytime of year.

New York

New York State’s Adirondack Mountain Region is a beautiful winter playground. Visit Lake Placid for a taste of Olympic History. The home of the 1980’s Winter Olympic Games, Lake Placid is filled with restaurants, shops and places to stay - nearby WhiteFace Mountain Resort boasts great skiing for experts and beginners alike.
Gore Mountain in North Creek has over 11 ski lifts covering 75 trails.
