Serious Flooding in Branson, Missouri
For the second time in less than a month, the lakes around Branson, Missouri are experiencing severe flooding because of very heavy rainfall. National Weather Service radar precipitation estimates show that between 4 and 5 inches of rain fell in the Branson area during the early morning hours of April 10th. Meanwhile, as much as 8 inches of rain fell in parts of Arkansas -- which is upstream along the White River which feeds Table Rock Lake.
Jim Sandberg, Operations Director of the US Army Corps Of Engineers Little Rock Division says this latest surge of rainfall has forced them to release tens of thousands of cubic feet of water each second from Table Rock Dam.
This record-breaking water release from Table Rock Dam is resulting in flooding along the famed Branson Landing as well as in some residential neighborhoods. Jim sandburg says, the dams along the White River waterway are doing exactly what they're designed to do.
