The Music of the Bible Revealed - Psalms 137
This is a clip from my lecture/concert for the West Houston SDA Church on May 11, 2007. It is taken from the "house video" made by that church. In this clip I compare the Sephardic-Jerusalemite rite's version of Psalms 137 (as found on THE SACRED BRIDGE by Joel Cohen and the Boston Camerata) with a live performance of Suzanne Haik-Vantoura's rendition. The purpose is to illustrate the essential structural (and therefore expressive) difference between the folk psalmody of the synagogue (even at its best) and the professional psalmody of the Temple.
