Maryland, my Maryland - Bunk Johnson
Bunk Johnson and his band, recorded New York, 12th November 1945. Sorry that there is no clip to watch, but the photograph was taken in the 1940's when Bunk was discovered working at Conrad's Rice Mill in New Iberia, La. by some american musicologists who (legend has it) got him a new trumpet and dentures and persuaded him to re-form a band.
Whatever the truth of the matter, we know that he chose George Lewis clt. Jim Robinson trb. Alcide 'Slow Drag' Pavagau bs. Baby Dodds dms.Laurance Marrero bjo. to form the band, recorded here, that was one of the major influences on the N.O. revival which took both sides of "the pond" by storm in the 1950' and 60's.
