Locked Attic - Dive (Nirvana cover)
This is my band, Locked Attic, playing a Nirvana cover, Dive, at Gigaroo 2. 7/16/05
I think it's funny that out of all the videos I have upload on here, this video gets the most amount of complaints.
The story was I was playing a free show and while I was waiting my turn, I was getting drunk and not to mention I was already exhausted from clearing wild brush all day for campers, My Mother died from heart failure and my Grandfather died from cancer a week prior to this, so I didn't have much sleep and I was so drunk they dragged my from a field that i was passed out in pretty much threw me up on stage. I'm surprised i got this far.
Now what shocks me is that people are so upset that a Nirvana song wasn't performed perfectly. Yes Christ Novaselic was an exceptional bassist, Dave Grohl is a very talented musician and his drumming was right on, but to be so judgmental over me being so sloppy on covering the guitar and vocals, Kurt Cobain's contribution, just seems humorous to me. Don't get me wrong, he wrote great songs that changed the world (lyricaly), but in the process he wasn't too keen on being a musical technician. Here's a guy who would cook up and go through a whole bundle of heroin before even walking out on stage. If you watch "Live Tonight: Sold Out" he fucks up almost every song and even say in the video that it's OK to play as sloppy as you want.
People are so full of the idea they know how music should be performed these days. I'm sure most of the comments were made by people that weren't even alive or old enough to understand or listen to his music while he was alive. I was a teenager during the hair metal & early 90's pop/grunge shift. I feel lucky to have been a witness of the transition of C&C Music Factory-Prince and the New Revolution-Nelson-Extreme-MC Hammer-Envouge slowly be taken over and eventually be destroyed by hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come as You Are and Lithium and mainstream radio. But I guess to some of you that's all bullshit because you only go by facts from VH1, MTV and the internet.
I knew this sucked. I was going to replace it with a version where I was a 100%, but it seems to have taken on a whole new cause: GETTING REACTIONS FROM PEOPLE THAT ARE BITCHING ABOUT SOMEBODY DOING A SLOPPY NIRVANA COVER...god forbid.
The funny thing is I've been playing this song since I bought Insecticide in '94 (yes, I knew it came out in '92, but I was dirt broke growing up. shit happens). Maybe I'll do a version were I shoot up some smack right in my jugular on stage. Then maybe I can finally play the song the way it was supposed to and make all of you happy.
