This is a Doppelmayr/CTEC high speed detachable quad chairlift at Beaver Creek. The chair enters at 1000ft/min, the chair grip on the haul cable is released, the chair is then moved by the traction plate by tires. Once the load is complete, the tires accelerate the chair back to 1000ft/min and the grip is reattached to the haul cable. Very simple, very cool. This particular lift has about 170 chairs and cost in the realm of 4 million dollars. Control of the machine is all PLC based. The video is short, but shows the bull wheel that directs the rope back around. It's a large pulley really. I'll try to get some video of the drive terminal as well. It's primary electrically driven, with both secondary and tertiary diesel back up engines.
