Heavy Rain Causes Flooding In Missouri

Heavy rain is causing flash flooding in parts of Missouri and has closed some highways. In Cass County, Route E north of Strasburg has been closed due to high water from Big Creek. "It's not surprising. No, it happens too many times," said Jay Ware, who lives near Big Creek. "It happens anytime you get a pretty good rain. And, you know, we've had a pretty good rain today." "Every time we get, I don't know, 3 or 4 inches of rain, it floods," another resident told KMBC's Martin Augustine. The Missouri Department of Transportation also closed Highway 58 in Strasburg because of rising water. In Johnson County, Route 23 at Blackwater River, about five miles south of Concordia, has been closed. In northern Boone County, secondary roads between Sturgeon and Centralia are covered with up to 1 foot of water. The National Weather Service said the area has received 1 to 2 inches of rain since early Monday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for several counties in Missouri and Kansas.
