Central Link Light Rail Testing
The past few weeks, Sound Transit has been gearing up for full time testing between the Central Link Operations and Maintenance Facility and Royal Brougham and eventually the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. New road signs indicating that testing will be underway between these locations will be up within the next week or two. The last few days have been testing circuits within the vehicle and grade crossing, along with other sensors along the right of way. With this testing also brought speed and braking tests. According to one of the personal I talked with reached nearly 45mph but have been moving about at 25mph to 35mph for "normal" operating speed between these sections.
I have videos of the runs from the 5th and today (7th) but since outside links (youtube) are not allowed, you'll have to go to that other site to view them or do a search under Sound Transit or Central Link to see.
I must say besides the "whine" these vehicles make, they are QUIET at these speeds...
